Jo-Ann D. M. Murrell has over twenty years experience as a Design Architect and Contract Administrator in both the Public and Private Sectors. She is Managing Director of Carisoul Architecture.
Her tenure at the National Housing Authority brought her into direct contact with endusers, and she has been able to communicate their needs into design concepts and resultant final designs. Her communication skills allow her to communicate effectively at all levels to ensure that stakeholders understand the project purpose.
She has been Lead Architect for several projects ranging from vocational training centres, libraries, day care centres, single and multi-family housing developments and commercial buildings. Her work demonstrates a strong response to the needs of her clients, the end users and the commitment to green building.
A major advantage of Ms. Murrell’s competencies is her training in environmental studies, as she ensures that the natural ecosystem is preserved and designs are green and environmentally responsive.
Ms. Murrell continues her professional development by being actively involved in professional associations. She is a Registered Architect who is a Past President of the Trinidad and Tobago Institute of Architects. She is also a member of the: Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA); Project Management Institute (PMI); PMI Southern Caribbean Chapter, Trinidad and Tobago Institute of Architects (TTIA).
In the field of research, Ms. Murrell continues to investigate and explore best practices that can add value to her clients’ projects and ensure that appropriate technology is employed to create sustainable green designs.
Ms. Murrell expresses some of her ideas through her paintings. Her appreciation for colour and nature is evident in the buildings that she designs.
